Sail Croatia Day 3: Vis → Hvar & Pakleni

Day 3: Vis → Hvar & Pakleni

We had a peaceful night in Vis with no anchor dragging or drifting thanks to our line ashore. It was remarkable by how quiet the bay was.

We woke to another morning in paradise. The only other boat in the harbour left at the crack of dawn so we had the whole place to ourselves.

We set off by around 9am and popped our head into a “The Blue Lagoon” as featured in Mamamia (after which our boat was named). It was beautiful but perhaps a little over rated.

We continued on our journey counter clockwise around Vis from the south side of the island to the north east tip and then cut across to Hvar for lunch.

The wind was extremely light and our destination upwind so we had to use our motor for most of the day.

We hoped to squeeze into the marina in Hvar for a few hours while we ate lunch and restocked our boat, but the dock was full of super yachts so we were relegated to the local anchorage.

Hvar is a glamorous town with prices to match. But the food was incredible and we had a lovely time walking around the cobbled streets, eating gelato, drinking coffee, and swimming at the beach before heading back to our boat with more supplies.

We motored from Hvar to the neighbouring Pekalini islands in search of somewhere a little less busy to anchor for the night. It was a lot of fun weaving through the narrow channels between the chain of islands but we were surprised by how busy it was. We motored for quite a ways before we found a bay that felt right.

We dropped anchor and attempted another line ashore, as that felt like it added to our tranquility last night. But we were too far from shore to make the rope work and our anchor felt very secure. So we decided to leave it.

Another romantic dinner cooked by Lucy with roast pumpkin, quinoa, and left over lamb koftas. And now getting ready for bed its the most peaceful and still night we have experienced so far. We will enjoy it while it lasts.
