A cloud for agents
The E2B guy posted an article on X about how sandboxes are dead and the next thing is an agent cloud.
Agents want tools beyond a sandbox or fleet of VMs. They need many of the other primitives of a cloud provider to get the job done well.
This is a provocative idea.
We host our own agent platform and run our own sandboxes on nomad.
We struggle with giving our users the ability to create shareable apps in a robust way.
Apps need durable workflows and hosted apps of various requirements. Sometimes they need to control hardware on our factory floor. Sometimes they need to run accelerated workflows for simulations.
Whatever these agent clouds look like I hope they make it easy to create common patterns for hosting apps with plug and play shared auth (bring our own auth).
And some kind of immutable content addressable, copy on write, file system would be excellent.
We need to be able to have non devs build and share apps in a more reliable way.
Perhaps this future cloud for agents will make that possible.
Then again maybe we just use the cloud we have now. They are pretty good at figuring it out.
We are going to give Modal a try soon for sandboxes and file system stuff. Hope that is fruitful.
